Associate Professor Melanie Baak
LEAD RESEARCHER
Melanie Baak is an Assocaite Professor in UniSA Education Futures and the co-convenor of the Migration and Refugee Research Network (MARRNet). She is an ARC DECRA Fellow from 2023-2025. She is a member of the Centre in Research for Educational and Social Inclusion (CRESI) at the University of South Australia. Her research and teaching interests broadly cover areas of equity and inclusion, particularly in schools, with a focus on refugee education and resettlement. Her research and teaching are underpinned by understandings of how systems and structures work to marginalise sections of the population, particularly culturally and linguistically diverse groups.

Associate Professor Joel Windle
Joel Windle is an Associate Professor in UniSA Education Futures. His research and teaching focuses on cultural and linguistic diversity, and in particular how community-based literacies can make curricula more inclusive. Joel is currently leading an international study on innovative teaching practices involving partners from Brazilian and North American Universities, as well as community-based organisations and school educational authorities.
His research has received support from the Australian Research Council, Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development, and the State Research Foundation of Rio de Janeiro. -

Dr Emily Miller
Emily Miller works as a researcher with a focus on education, health, family relationships, migration and racism. She previously worked in schools in a range of roles, and her PhD focused on supports for students from refugee backgrounds in Australian high schools. Emily’s family background is English/Irish/Scottish.
